MY FUTURE JOB (POST 5)

Today we're going to write a post about our future job. The topic: My Future Job. In English, we don't really differentiate between the words profession, occupation, and job, so you can think of it as your profession. What do you think this job will be like? What will you focus on? What will you do? Why will you do it? Say anything you need to say about it. Minimum words: 210

My case is different. I have my job, and I don't want to change it. I am an English teacher. Since I have an MA in Linguistics, this is a logical choice for me, and I'm happy with it. While I was a student, and right after I got my BA, I had various jobs: I sold knives, I was a waiter, I renewed organization memberships over the phone, I worked in a bookstore, I was a billing investigator (I hated that job!)... I've done various jobs to get money to live.

In an alternative universe, I might have become a geologist...specifically a paleontologist. I really liked these subjects in school, and seriously considered these majors. When I started university, I had a kind of "bachillerato" program the first year, and took Introduction to Geology. In the end, I decided not to do it...Other interests.
If I were a paleontologist, I would specialize in early mammals from the period just a bit after the dinosaurs became extinct. I would be focused on the early speciation of various current mammal groups: carnivores, ungulates, horses, rodents, whales, and others. This would be the Eocene--the period about 55 million years ago. I would really enjoy working in the field and excavating fossils. Being outside of an office is something that really appeals to me. While not doing field work, I would probably spend some time in an office at a computer, and I'd also be giving lectures at a university. Perhaps, I'd give some TED talks if I were famous or ambitious that way.
I think the beauty of Paleontology is that it helps to define and explain the ways in which everything is interelated, and how this has happened. I think we need to know our place in the world and the place of everything else, and how the roles and functions we perform on the planet have been developing.

  5. Woah, I think that paleontology is something amazing, scratching through the past in order to discover new species, beyond the human kind, putting atention in how, just like you said, everything is connected. Good luck on it!!

  8. I think paleontology is wonderful.
Paleontology and archeology are very important because they help us reconstruct the past and understand the present.
